Home Remodeling has a lot of moving parts which we know can cause additional confusion and stress. We believe ongoing project communication is key to reducing that confusion and stress. Here is an overview about how the remodeling process with Specktacular Home Remodeling works for you.
We know remodeling is a big undertaking and we want to use our first appointment to meet you at your home and make sure we are a good fit for you and your family. At this appointment we will be diving into your vision, talking about your budget and schedule, and what you can expect from us. We will leave you with a complete guidance kit full of useful information to help you understand not only who we are, but also how projects like yours work.
Prior to entering into a Construction Agreement together, there will be a pre-construction process. The pre-construction process will be handled with what we call a ‘Professional Services Agreement’ (PSA). During the PSA, we will be faithfully moving forward in creating the home of your dreams. Some of the things you can expect to happen during this time are: drawings to secure permits, engineering and feasibility studies, a detailed estimate with full scope of work and the materials we will use, and sometimes a “deconstruction and discovery” if we need to confirm any unknown conditions.
In the long run, a project is typically less expensive when a thorough design and the entire specification process has been completed prior to starting the job. A well-designed project is also more likely to finish on time and on budget. You may choose to enter into a ‘Letter of Intent’ (LOI) at any time during this phase to place the actual construction of your project into our production schedule.
Upon the completion of the PSA, we will meet with you to talk through your project. We will take all the time you want to be comfortable and confident. We will go over the scope of work, project plan, payment schedule, logistics, and your production schedule (timeline). Project schedules at SHR are well thought out, detailed, and coordinated from start or finish by a pre-agreed date. Our organized schedules allow us to secure our trade contractors for pre-determined time frames which helps your remodeling project stay on time. You will receive a copy of our production schedule before work begins because you deserve to know what is going on in your home during your renovation.
At this point, you will have signed off on the design and production plan and we have created a Contract that will be signed by both you and a representative of SHR. We will go over and explain every detail of our straightforward contract. At this time, we will also assign you with a Project Manager who will know everything your project requires for your vision to come to life.
In addition to your Project Manager, you will have a job book on site which contains the complete scope of work, your project schedule, emergency contact information, design drawings, permits, selection sheets, and much more. This is a tool for our team and trade contractors, but also for you. We realize we are guests in your home, and we want you to be informed and involved throughout the process. Even if you have a busy schedule, we will work together to find the best ways to communicate with you on a regular basis, so you are up to date on the progress. Any task not completed directly by SHR staff will be accomplished by our trusted trade and specialty contractors. Our trade contractors are part of our remodeling “family”, are licensed, bonded, and insured, and most have worked with us for years. They will treat you and your home with respect.
No matter how carefully we plan your project together, you may want to make a change or two along the way. We are prepared to accommodate any changes you want, and our Contract will explain how costs associated with your changes will be handled.
During the completion phase we will meticulously inspect to ensure that craftsmanship levels have been maintained throughout the project. We will do a final job walk-through and meeting to answer operation questions regarding appliances, heating and cooling systems, or any other questions you may have. Your job book will be returned to our office, all owner’s manuals, copies of inspections, and documentation related to the products installed in your home will be sorted and sent to you. We will do a final clean up within the project and anything on your property we touched. We will set you up with a document for you to list anything you may run across after we leave that you want us to look at on our next visit. And finally, all our remodeling work comes with a one-year warranty. We want you to have peace of mind knowing that the work we complete for you will be completed in such a way that it will last for many years.
Know that our service continues long after we have completed your remodeling project. We will remain only a phone call or email away, should you ever need us to answer questions about your renovation, help you with a smaller task, or assist you when you are ready to remodel another area of your home. Efficient, professional and punctual staff. The Specktacular crew were sensitive to my needs and preferences. They arranged their work schedule based when I would like them to start each day and met that time. They seem to enjoy to what they do because they are always smiling. They strived to cause as little disruption to my daily routine as possible; minimizing noise and mess. In fact, they cleaned my house, inside and out, to a respectable degree before they left each day. They even asked if there was something I would like them to do. The Specktacular crew asked for my preferences when necessary: positioning of the new light fixture, height of the lamps, color of stain, height of thermostats, blending of the tiles. These people want their work to be perfect and there is seemingly nothing they won't do! I cannot recommend Mitch Speck and his staff more highly.

A number of years ago we "borrowed" Mitch Speck from our neighbor across the street for whom he had been working for quite some time. We figured he was either very good or very slow, but took a chance. Fortunately he was very good. He did several minor to major remodeling jobs for us and we were extremely satisfied with his work and his character. Later, in another house, we trusted Mitch and his crew to do the whole thing.
