Why Remodel

When is it better to remodel instead of move or live with your home the way it is now?

When considering whether or not to remodel, several questions usually come to mind. For many, these questions usually include: Wouldn’t it be easier to move? or Why bother changing anything? These are valid questions and remodeling is not right for everyone.

Here are some things to think about as you develop your answers:

  • Do I like my neighbors and the neighborhood that I live in now?
  • Am I the right distance from friends and family? Will moving change that?
  • If I move to a different home, will I end up remodeling the next one anyway to fit our lifestyle?
  • Do I have the financial resources available to move or the equity in my home to remodel?
  • Do I plan on living here for at least the next 3-5 years so I can enjoy my remodeled home?
  • Is there something that I can do to my house now that will enhance its livability today and increase my resale value if I ever decide to move?
  • If I remodel wisely, could I potentially live here longer when I retire and save money by avoiding a retirement or assisted care facility for several years?
  • If I don’t remodel soon, will my inaction lead to bigger problems in the future?
  • If my house is dysfunctional today, will it still be dysfunctional in the future or will conditions change soon enough to live with things the way they are now?
  • If I choose to remodel, will I be able to deal with people in my house for an extended period of time? Will it be better for me to move out during the construction?
